Lord of the flies

I was somewhat nervous yesterday, as I contemplated the drive back to the airport. The distance was only about 60km but experience has taught me that short distances can take an interminably long time. I would sooner arrive two hours early than half an hour late. Fortunately brother agreed with me and we prayerfully set off with four hours up our sleeve. Of course we arrived in plenty of time. The only slight hold up was waiting for a train to cross the road we were travelling on.

We were able to have lunch at a mall where a mall sold KF. I ate biryani but the children enjoyed their fried chicken.  From there it was only a skip and a hop to the airport. Once though security I relaxed with a coffee. I met this foreigner who asked if I had been to a yoga retreat. He had spent two months in a town in the foothills. It had taken him a while to be brave enough  to explore the town where he was staying, he said. I wondered how on earth he was going to cope in the city.

After we landed my next challenge of the day was to find an Uber taxi back to Mossies. I even managed to do that relatively easily with a little bit of help from a friend on high and arrived back at Mossies in good time.

Today I read Pr****** 21 and it said the horse is made ready for the battle but victory rests with the L***d. I was thinking about conquering the enemies that face us. R***** 8 lists a few.

Trouble, hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger and sword. It does not mention missing a plane but maybe that comes under hardship. It then goes on to say that our position can be compared to sheep about to be slaughtered. A cheery thought really. Possibly not our every day reality in the land of the long white cloud but certainly true for the people I have been hanging out with recently.

I am not convinced though  that G**d will give us the kind of victory we would choose. We want to see the trouble and hardship end.  I suspect that is Alice in Wonderland kind of thinking. Maybe G**d prefers to walk with us through whatever circumstances we face.

I am wondering if the secret to being more than a conqueror as the passage goes on to say is to live in the reality where we are constantly aware of our belovedness. We are beloved and belong to the Creator of the universe. Nothing can separate us from his  love in C****t. No circumstance, no action against us, no unkind word. I can rest and trust G**d loves me, is for me and will always be with me. Therefore I am safe and secure despite what my circumstances tell me.

We have been warned that in this life we will have trouble. If however, we know we are loved, then those troubles will be little more than annoying flies buzzing around trying to disturb our peace. If this is so then I expect the word of G*** is the fly spray that will take those suckers down. In particular the verse about giving thanks in all circumstances has lethal power over pesky flies.
